What People Are Saying...

  • Overall a great trip, however there were some excursions that could have been omitted and the itinerary was too jam packed, there was no downtime for people to rest and do their own thing. Also there was some minsformation communicated before the trip. It was indicated that there would be banks/atms and places would accept credit/debit but it turned out 95% of the places only took cash and if you did not bring enough cash, it would've been difficult to buy food/tip and purchase other goods. Very few atm's took canadian debit cards. The spa was a waste of a day, more time could've been spent in Quito.

Matt is an excellent, detailed and caring agent through Adventuredesk! He helped me out with planning a trip to Morocco through Intrepid Travel in April 2023. He provided great suggestions and advice regarding flights and how to be cost effective and save. I would definitely recommend Matt for my next vacation and trip!

Adventuredesk has been my go-to partner for all our adventure travel trips. They have helped us with two amazing trips and we have four more on the calendar for 2024. Matt has helped us from brainstorming and planning sessions, building out the trips to sales support to our community. One of the things I value most is his communication and quick response time. He is easy to get a hold of to answer questions and provide us with whatever we need. Matt and Adventuredesk will be planning all our trips moving forward!! Thank you, Matt!!

  • The team at Adventuredesk helped me to organise a trip to Qubec for a Spartan Race for myself and clients at the gym. Their service was quick and efficient, organising both accomodation and additional activities around the race such as whitewater rafting and a Scandinavian Spa day. Assistance was provided whenever needed also. Overall I cannot recommend Adventuredesk enough for any of your travel needs.

The trip to Andalucia was great. Christina was a wonderful guide. Knowledgeable and calm, clear instructions. Knowledge of nice places to eat and visit. Good leader. Susan was a fabulous hike leader and took us to a good restaurant. Knowledge of floral and fauna and customs. Thanks to Matt for staying on top of things. Hotel rooms and recording flights etc. The hotels were great. One hotel has hard beds Seville I think. Otherwise comfortable. Good trip

Itinerary Overview

Day 1 - Arrive Porto

Arrive in Porto anytime. This incredible emerging destination is full of great food and culture. Meet up with the Adventuredesk team as we discuss the adventure ahead.

Day 2 - Porto to Vigo

We transfer along the Atlantic coast into Spain to arrive in Vigo. Upon arrival, take some time to relax and prepare for the walk ahead. We will have a chance to explore the town and grab any last minute items before a big trek tomorrow.

Day 3 - Vigo - Arcade (25 km/ 6.5 hours)

Today begins next to the Church of Inmaculada Concepción in Vigo. Step by step, you’ll leave behind the Olive City and make your way toward the Water Path. After passing the Church of San Andrés—where you can stamp your Pilgrim’s Credential—you’ll arrive in Redondela, the point where the Portuguese Coastal Way joins the Portuguese Inland Way. It’s a scenic town, offering a sweet mix of sea air, historical charm, and Camino camaraderie The stage ends in Arcade, a place famous for its oysters.

Day 4: Arcade - Pontevedra (12 km / 3.5 hours)

You'll cross the historic Ponte Sampaio, a beautiful medieval bridge, and begin a gentle climb through the parish of A Canicouva before reaching Vilaboa. After passing the Chapel of Santa Marta, the route splits—here, you can stick to the original Portuguese Way or take the scenic River Path along the Río dos Gafos. Either way, after a few more kilometers, you’ll reach Pontevedra, where this stage wraps up at the iconic Church of La Peregrina. This landmark of the Camino welcomes you into the heart of Galicia’s pilgrimage culture.

Day 5: Pontevedra - Caldas de Reis (21 km / 4h)

Stamp your credential at the Sanctuary of Virgen de la Peregrina and then wander through the streets of Pontevedra. Cross the Burgo bridge over the river Lérez and then begin the first part of today's journey by the Xunqueira de Alba marshlands, a peaceful stretch of natural wetlands where you can spot a variety of local wildlife. The journey continues through Reiris Woods and Lombo da Maceira, finishing in Barro. It’s worth walking some kilometers more to appreciate the enchanting Barosa River Waterfall. Only a few more miles to arrive in Caldas de Reis. Here, one can find every essential service, and visit the healing thermal waters enjoyed since the Roman era.

Day 6: Caldas de Reis - Padrón (19 km / 4.5 hours)

The route between Caldas and Padrón takes us along roads through tiny hamlets and cart trails through the woods. The first stop is the Church of Santa Maria de Carracedo, where your eyes will be in awe at the harmonious blend of architectural styles. After that, you’ll walk through the forested slopes of Monte Castelo in Valga, enjoy the sound of the Valga River and the sight of old mills. The trail brings you into Pontecesures, where you’ll walk over a Roman bridge dating back to the 1st century—still standing strong as it links the provinces of Pontevedra and A Coruña. On the other side lies Padrón, a town steeped in legend and culture. It’s home to the Roman altar where, according to tradition, the boat carrying the remains of the Apostle Santiago was moored.

Day 7: Padrón - Santiago (25 km, 6.5 hours)

Day 7: Padrón - Santiago (25 km, 6.5 hours) Final stage! We're only 25 kilometres away from being able to hug the Apostle. However, we shouldn't rush through the day as this final part of the Camino has lots of attractions along the way. We leave Padrón and find the A Escravitude sanctuary, which has a sacred fountain, and then on Rúa do Francos we come across what is said to be the oldest cross in Galicia. The climb to Alto de O Milladoiro is a special moment, where pilgrims have long knelt at the first sight of Santiago’s Cathedral. From there, you’ll enter the historic center of Santiago through A Porta Faxeira. As we enter Santiago, our path takes us to the Plaza del Obradoiro, the heart of the city and the symbolic end of the pilgrimage. Here, surrounded by stunning architecture and the joyful buzz of fellow pilgrims, you can reflect on the journey behind you and celebrate this unforgettable accomplishment.

Day 8: Santiago Explorations

Enjoy a slower morning as we have completed our epic hike. Enjoy a spanish coffee and explore the town with us, and of course enjoy a celebratory dinner and night out to commemorate this incredible journey together.

Day 9: Depart Santiago

Enjoy a final breakfast and make your way back to the airport for your flight home. Options available to extend your stay with Adventuredesk and explore more!

How Difficult is This Hike - What training is required

While we are not hiking high altitude or carrying a lot of gear, don’t let that fool you.  The last 100km of the Portuguese Camino has long hiking stretches ranging from 20-25 kilometres per day over a variety of terrain.

If you are not accustomed to being on your feet all day, or walking longer distances – this can be a real challenge.

The right footwear is critical.  Blisters and foot soreness are the most common challenge hikers will face, even with good shoes, if you are not use to walking longer distances, its time to increase your daily step count.

Your breakfast and dinners are included and pre arranged during the hike.  While hiking each day, we will pass by various little towns and areas where we can sit down and purchase a lunch.  We will give instructions each day on what to expect.

During the hike, you only need to bring a daypack with the things you want to have with you during the hike.  Things like an extra, layer, a rain jacket, camera/phone, water, snacks, and your wallet to pay for lunch.

Every morning your luggage will be picked up at our hotel and transferred to the next hotel where it will be waiting for you.

Note: Only one bag per person is allowed to be transferred – any additional baggage may result in an additional cost.

Of course, we will have accommodation options for people who wish to arrive early or stay later.  In addition, we will have a number of pre and post trip extensions should you wish to take a few extra days to explore with us.
