A 12-Day Camino With Shorter, More Relaxed Walking Days

Hikers on a forest trail of the Camino de Santiago in Portugal

Dreaming of walking the Camino de Santiago, but not sure about 20+ km days? This itinerary was made for you. Starting in Porto with an overnight in Vigo before the official start, you’ll walk the Portuguese Way from Vigo to Santiago de Compostela, with the route split into short, relaxed stages of 6 to 16 km, leaving plenty of time to stop for coffee, explore old towns and simply enjoy the walk.

You’ll cross the Rande Bridge over the Ría de Vigo, wander through eucalyptus and pine forests, follow the River Ulla through quiet farmland and pass through charming Galician towns like Redondela, Pontevedra and Caldas de Reis, famous for its thermal springs.

With comfortable hotels and rural guesthouses, daily luggage transfers and dinners included most nights, all you need to do is walk, until the moment you stand together in front of the Cathedral of Santiago and collect your Compostela.

  • The Portuguese Way from Vigo – Walk the final stretch of the Portuguese Camino through the green landscapes of Galicia.
  • Cross the Rande Bridge – Follow forested coastal paths and cross the Ría de Vigo on your very first walking day.

We had a great experience working with Adventuredesk to help plan our dream wedding trip to Tanzania. From the Mt. Kilimanjaro hike, going on safari, and having a small ceremony in Zanzibar - we cannot thank Adventuredesk enough for their planning, listening to what we wanted, putting together an itinerary that was both adventurous and relaxing, connecting us with guides who were knowledgable, kind, and have since become friends, always being willing to answer questions and very responsive. Special thanks to Matt Kinch who we worked with directly.

  • The team at Adventuredesk helped me to organise a trip to Qubec for a Spartan Race for myself and clients at the gym. Their service was quick and efficient, organising both accomodation and additional activities around the race such as whitewater rafting and a Scandinavian Spa day. Assistance was provided whenever needed also. Overall I cannot recommend Adventuredesk enough for any of your travel needs.

Overall a great trip, however there were some excursions that could have been omitted and the itinerary was too jam packed, there was no downtime for people to rest and do their own thing. Also there was some minsformation communicated before the trip. It was indicated that there would be banks/atms and places would accept credit/debit but it turned out 95% of the places only took cash and if you did not bring enough cash, it would've been difficult to buy food/tip and purchase other goods. Very few atm's took canadian debit cards. The spa was a waste of a day, more time could've been spent in Quito.

The trip to Andalucia was great. Christina was a wonderful guide. Knowledgeable and calm, clear instructions. Knowledge of nice places to eat and visit. Good leader. Susan was a fabulous hike leader and took us to a good restaurant. Knowledge of floral and fauna and customs. Thanks to Matt for staying on top of things. Hotel rooms and recording flights etc. The hotels were great. One hotel has hard beds Seville I think. Otherwise comfortable. Good trip

Important Information

How Far Will I Walk Each Day

Walking stages range from 6 to 16 km (about 2–5 hours), with most days between 8 and 13 km. The terrain is gentle and rolling, making this an ideal Camino for anyone who wants the experience without 20+ km days.

Yes. Vigo is a recognized starting point on the Portuguese Coastal Way, about 100 km from Santiago, which meets the Pilgrim’s Office minimum for the Compostela. You’ll receive a Pilgrim Passport at the start of the trip. Collect at least two stamps a day along the way (from cafés, churches and your accommodations), then present it at the Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago to receive your Compostela.

No. Your main bag (one piece of up to 20 kg per person) is transferred between accommodations each day, so you only carry a light day pack.

You’ll stay in a mix of comfortable hotels and charming rural guesthouses with private rooms, with breakfast and dinner included most nights.

Of course, we encourage arriving a couple days earlier and will be able to assist with pre or post accommodation in order to extend your stay. In addition, we will have optional extras before and after the trip for anyone interested in exploring more with us!
